CASTIGLIONE - Andrew V. Jr.

CASTIGLIONE - Andrew V. Jr., 54, Johnstown, died June 17, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center. Born May 1, 1953, in Johnstown, son of Andrew Sr. and Victoria (Formica) Castiglione. He is preceded in death by his father. Survived by his mother; loving wife of 30 years, the former Deborah Killian, Johnstown. Brother of Anthony, Johnstown; and Joseph, Washington, Pa. Also survived by mother and father-in-law, Frank and Shirley Killian, Johnstown; sisters-in-law, Lynn, wife of Richard Brezensky; Diane Killian; and Sharon, wife of Joseph Callihan, all of Johnstown; nieces, Annette Mucci, Marcellina Brown, Chrissy and Amy Brezensky, Brianne Killian and Ashley Callihan; nephews, Nathan Brezensky and Aaron Callihan; and great-nephews, Kevin Anthony Brown and Rockford Garrett Shuler. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Conemaugh. Andrew was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Air Force. A former trustee of the Daisytown Sportsmen's Club and a member of the Union Social Club. He was retired from Freight Car America after 28 years of service. He will be remembered as a kind and loving husband, brother and friend and will be sadly missed by all. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Committal will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by VFW Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team.



CHURILLA - John

CHURILLA - John "Jack," 58, Vinco, passed away June 18, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center, Main Campus. He was born May 24, 1949, in Johnstown, son of the late John Jay and Margaret (Kopsic) Churilla. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Katherine Rummell, Vinco; daughters, Renay L. Churilla, and her longtime companion, Stephen Kurtz, Westmont, and Connie, wife of Brad Houghton, South Fork; son, John, married to the former Margaret Jones, Mundys Corner; grandchildren, Dustin Kurtz, Angel and Brittanie Churilla and Garrett Houghton; sister, Diane, wife of Mike Edwards, Nanty Glo; cousin, Larry Churilla, and wife, Barb, Nanty Glo; several nieces and nephews and his best little companion, Smokey. Jack was employed at Kal Brothers Construction. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars and was known as a jack of all trades. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all that knew him. At the family's request there will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Baker-Harris Funeral Chapel, Conemaugh, with the Rev. Penny S. Adams officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.



CURTIS - Irene

CURTIS - Irene, 77, East Conemaugh Borough, passed away June 18, 2007, at her residence. She was born on March 20, 1930, in Johnstown, daughter of Wassil and Anna (Sokach) Kassick. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; sisters, Mary Lupek, Helen Rygle and Anna Yakemik; brothers, George "York" Kassick and Charles "Shot Gun" Kassick; and daughter-in-law, Pauline Curtis. She is survived by a daughter, Shelly, wife of Roger Hanson, Meyersdale; sons, Allan, Cover Hill; Jeff, married to the former Donna Sokach, Cover Hill; and Kevin, married to the former Janet "Cookie" Gutteridge, Mineral Point; grandchildren, Jamie Curtis, Johnstown; Amber Curtis, Apex, N.C.; Michael Curtis, married to the former Christina Boring; and Brian Curtis, all of Johnstown; Jill, wife of John Meffert III, Ocala, Fla.; and Sherri Curtis, wife of Scott Salem, and Scott Curtis, all of Johnstown; great-grandchildren, Trenten, Ty, Brandon, Jayda and Reese; brother, John "Jupe" Kassick, and wife, Jane, and sisters, Sue Gasior and Dorothy Lamberson, all of Johnstown; sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Curtis and Irene and Pearl Kassick, all of Johnstown; brothers-in-law, John Curtis, and wife, Louise, Va.; and Victor Curtis, and wife, Mary, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Irene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her family. DOUCETTE - Andrea "Andi" Lynn "Auntie A," 46, Johnstown, was called home to be with the Lord June 18, 2007. Born Aug. 16, 1960, in Johnstown, daughter of Mary E. Buzzard and Richard Sefick. Preceded in death by stepfather, Donald "Pete" Buzzard. Survived by loving husband, Marque H. Doucette, Johnstown; children, Jennifer M., married to Steven Retzer; Andrew P. Pepley; Heather A. Sutt; and Shannon L. Sutt; and grandson, Derek J. Retzer, all of Ohio; brothers, David D. Williams, Kenny W. Williams, Rick Sefick, Chris Williams, Shawn Sefick; sister, Sue Weaver; and nieces, nephews and many other close family and friends. Active volunteer and former officer of Daisytown Fire Company. Member of Daisytown Ladies Auxiliary, Cover Hill Fire Company and Riders for the People. Active in American Cancer Society and Daisytown Playground Committee. FRANTZ - Shawn P., 38, West Virginia, formerly of Twin Rocks, died June 17, 2007, as a result of an automobile accident. Born June 2, 1969 in Johnstown. Survived by parents; Leon and Peg Frantz; wife, Ann; and children, Sarah, Brandon, P.J., Josh and Noel. Brother of Sharon (John) Sidone, Steven (Valerie) and Sandra Frantz. GETZEY - Nicholas, 86, formerly of Johnstown, died June 18, 2007, at Laurel Crest Manor. Born Dec. 18, 1920, in Johnstown, son of Steve Sr. and Mary Getzey. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Steve Jr. and Edward Getzey. Last survivor of his immediate family. Survived by wife of 59 years, Margaret (Oravec) Getzey, Johnstown, and daughter, Janet, married to Michael Hart, Harrisburg. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II. HAVERS - Mary, 90, Allegheny Lutheran Home, formerly of Plymouth Avenue, went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2007. Born July 25, 1916, in Johnstown, daughter of the late George and Susan (Goch) Kolesar. Preceded in death by husband, Andrew; brothers, George, Andrew, Thomas and John; and infant sister, Betty Louise. Survived by loving and caring children, Donald, married to the former Alice Bazyk, Johnstown, and Nancy, married to Clayton Ott Jr., Windber; grandsons, Mark Alan Havers, married to the former Cheryl Geiger, Chalfont, Pa., and Mark Peter Ott, married to the former Kristen Ragen, Amissville, Va.; great-granddaughters, Morgan Havers and Marlee and Zoe Ott; special nieces, Barbara Wisor, Spokane, Wash., and Susan Galbraith, Montgomery Village, Md. Also survived by loving and faithful sisters, Anne, married to George Hamara, and Eleanor, widow of Clement Galbraith, both of Johnstown, and sister-in-law, Margaret Kolesar, Florida. Mary was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and former member of Deborah Class, Evangelical Lutheran Church Women, the church choir and served as a member of the church council. HOWARD - Mary M., 80, Bolivar, died June 19, 2007, in Close to Home Personal Care, Bolivar. She was born March 13, 1927, in Millwood, Pa., daughter of the late Charles and Alberta Parks Brewer. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in West Bolivar. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Sue Garland (and her husband, Thomas) of Bolivar; two grandsons, Jay (and his wife, Melissa) Garland and Eric Todd (and his wife, Carrie) Garland; twin great-grandchildren, Michael and Rachael Garland; two sisters, Josephine Carlson of Derry and Nellie Crites of Ohio; and three brothers, Walter Brewer of Latrobe, Wilbert Brewer of Derry and David Brewer of Youngstown. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jay D. Howard in 1987; three sisters, Jane Short, Rachel Picard and Helen Leccia; two brothers, William and Harry Brewer; and triplet siblings lost at birth. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Cletus and C. Rodney Hufford, and sister, Donna Sell. Survived by husband, Edward C. Kirsch, with whom she was to celebrate 50 years of marriage on Sept. 14, 2007; son, Randall Kirsch, married to former Cheryl Weaver, Carrolltown; daughter, Lisa, wife of Matthew Nagy, Ebensburg; and grandchildren, Matthew and Laurin Kirsch and Mackenzie and Aidan Nagy. Born Oct. 2, 1907, in Somerset County, daughter of John J. and Lucy Ann (Tressler) Walker. Preceded in death by parents; husband, John F. Martin; daughter, Dorothy J. Ober; sisters, Gladys Lape, Jennie Clemons and Velma Sharkey and brothers, Harry, James and Thomas Walker. Survived by son-in-law, Eugene E. Ober, Fort Myers, Fla., originally from Johnstown; twin grandchildren, Craig A. Ober, married to former Holly Black, Trophy Club, Texas, and Cynthia, married to Bruce Ravel, Mendham, N.J.; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Bethany and Bryce Ober and Natalie and Matthew Ravel; sister-in-law, Betty Walker, Somerset, formerly of Boswell; nieces, Kathleen Supanick and Dolores Sharkey; nephew, Bill Walker; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. McADAMS - Felicia (Hajduk), 64, of Johnstown, died June 15, 2007, at Windber Medical Center. She was born Aug. 31, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of John "Jaka" and Helen (Smithro) Hajduk. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, David; sisters, Mary Ann Kost, Joan Dolan and Margaret Medvesky; brother-in-law, James Dolan; nephew, James Dolan; and a special friend, Tom Pavlick. McCLUNG - Margaret Irene, 95, Ligonier, formerly of New Florence, died June 18, 2007, at the Bethlen Home, Ligonier. Born Oct. 20, 1911, in Bolivar, daughter of the late Charles and Carrie (McClelland) Henderson. Also preceded in death by husband, John C. McClung, who died in 1951, and brothers, Harry, Joseph and William Henderson. Member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, New Florence; OES Chapter 166, Blairsville; DAR, Bolivar; and Laurel Valley Senior Citizens and Hood-Vanatt American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, both of New Florence. RECH - Rose Marie (Zeman), 67, Ebensburg, passed away June 17, 2007, at Windber Medical Center. Born June 1, 1940, in Cambria Township, daughter of Stanley and Pearl (Conigy) Zeman. Preceded in death by father. Survived by mother, Ebensburg; husband of 45 years, Leo Rech; and sons, Roger (Brenda), Pittsburgh; Jim (Susanne), Boston; and Darren (Amy), Harrisburg; also eight grandchildren; brother, Leonard (Carol), Ebensburg; and five nieces and nephews. Member of Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg. Rose was a stay at home mom raising three sons, worked at her home business, Rose Marie Beauty Salon for nearly 30 years, and later employed as a food service worker. Rose enjoyed quilting and sewing. Member of Salix Stitches and American Quilters Society. She also enjoyed cooking and watching TV food programs. A loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed. At Rose's request there will be no viewing. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Name Church, the Rev. SHAFFER - Donald E., 76, 409 19th St., Windber, died June 19, 2007, at Regional Hospice at Windber. Born July 22, 1930, in Rummel, son of the late Cloyd L and Minnie M. (Custer) Shaffer. Also preceded in death by wife, former Lena M. Pennel; daughter, Donna L. Johnson; and five brothers and sisters. Survived by daughters, LuAnn, wife of Jerry Deyarmin, Windber, and Dori Tallyen, Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and sister, Ethel Gallagher, Richland Township. Navy veteran of Korean War. Owner/operator of Shaffer Oil Co., Windber, from 1959-1991. At Donald's request there is no viewing or visitation. SMITH - Lynda Christensen

SMITH - Lynda Christensen, 57, Rome, Ga., died June 16, 2007, at her residence in Rome. A native of Johnstown, Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 7, 1949, daughter of the late Christ James and Anna Mildred (Young) Christensen. Lynda had been a resident of Rome for the past 34 years moving her from silver Spring, Md. She was a homemaker, artist and a grammy and was of the Lutheran Faith. Lynda was preceded in death by a sister, Cheryle Darin, and a brother, Chris James Christensen II. Lynda was married on Oct. 19, 1980, to Henry Grady Smith Jr., who preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Erica Reese, Rome, Ga.; two sons, Chris Christensen and Grady Smith, both of Jefferson, Ga.; seven grandchildren, John Mazzo Jr., Kayla Mazzo, Taylor and Dylan Reese, Kayla, Cullin and Jessica Ambrose; two sisters, Renee Rharbite and Elizabeth Kasonavich, both of Johnstown; a brother, Christ Eric Christensen, Virginia Beach, Va.; and her best friend and caregiver, Teresa Fowler, Rome; also two aunts and nieces and nephews. Survived by son, John, and wife, Judy (Valinski) Tyno, Englewood, Fla.; daughter, Yvonne Tyno, Pine Island, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
