PATTON — BAKALE – Gary A., 60, Patton, passed away July 14, 2013. Gary, our beloved son and brother, was born and raised in Patton, having graduated from Cambria Heights in 1963. He lost his father as a youngster, but still learned how to work hard. Gary worked locally for Hoover Gas & Oil, then traveled to Texas working briefly where he held three jobs to make ends meet. Returning to Virginia, Gary was a mechanic and machinist for Anderson Land Development servicing large earth moving equipment in the field. Gary never lost his love for Patton or his hometown buddies and returned a few years ago. He acquired a passion for the “Three Stooges” movies, memorabilia and collectibles. Gary loved cars and motorcycles. He frequently attended many car shows and was a member of numerous trike clubs and won several awards for his trike. He enjoyed people, socializing on the streets of Patton and frequenting the local car shops and garages. Gary was a “gentle giant” humble, quiet and unassuming soul who never said an unkind word about anyone. Preceded in death by father, Matthew Bakale, killed in a coal mining accident; paternal grandparents, Martin and Mary Bakale; maternal grandparents, Anthony and Luba Ribaric; and numerous aunts and uncles. Survived by his mother, Ann (Ribaric) Bakale, Patton; brother, Dennis Bakale, Patton; sister, Genie Bakale-Aldrich, Michigan; sister, Pamela Bakale-Newman, Texas; niece, Andrea Newman; and nephew, Alan Matthew Newman; godmother and aunt, Louise (Ribaric) Patrick, Northern Cambria; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 19, at McCabe Funeral Home, Patton, where service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Pastor Joyce Mitchell to celebrate Gary’s life. A blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at the funeral home with Benedictine Fathers as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary’s name to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kan. 66575. Online condolences may be made at mccabefuneralhomes.com.
