WORMLEYSBURG — CALLAHAN – Patricia Ann, 62, Wormleysburg, Cumberland County, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Harrisburg Hospital. Patty was born March 23, 1951, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Richard D. and Grace (Toth) Akers. She was devoted to and is survived by her husband, Thomas E.; three children, Lauren E., and her husband, Fredrick Clark, Pikesville, Md.; Michael T., Atlanta, Ga.; and Daniel E., Salt Lake City, Utah; five brothers and two sisters and their spouses, Richard and Georgia Akers, Robert and Carol Akers, Mary Jo and Clint Rowles, Rosemarie and James Thomas, John and Kathy Akers, Jim Akers and Michael and Cheryl Akers; and many nieces and nephews with whom she was very close. A graduate of Bishop McCort High School. She received her bachelor of science in nursing and master’s in adult and community education degrees from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she also was inducted into the Honor Society for Nursing. Patty’s professional career was varied, but always focused on helping others. From providing direct patient care as an RN, Patty went on to supervise an LPN training program before becoming a health care surveyor employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to ensure that nursing home care standards were being met. Patty loved her family, cooking and pets and expressed that love freely at many family gatherings. Although diagnosed with a serious condition in May, her passing was sudden. She was blessed to attend the wedding of her daughter earlier in July and spend her final weeks full of life and love in the comforting presence of her family as she dealt with her illness with characteristic humor and grace. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at Musselman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Lemoyne. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, where Patty was a longtime member. Those wishing to remember Patty are asked to express their love to family and friends.
