NANTY GLO — PACKER – John “Jack” Sr., 67, Nanty Glo, passed away Feb. 24, 2013, outdoors where he loved the most. Born June 26, 1945, in Nanty Glo, son of the late James and Beatrice (Yeager) Packer. Preceded in death by sisters, Maryanne Kline and Ellen Rice, and brother, James Packer. Survived by wife of 43 years, former Carolyn Peterman; son, John, and wife, Malissa; and twin granddaughters, Eva and Aubry Packer, whom he adored. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Formerly employed by Bethlehem Steel Corp. Past president of Jackson Township Rod & Gun Club; a former fire warden, he was a member and past president of Forest Fire Wardens Association. Also a member of Nanty Glo Fire Company, American Legion Riders and past member of the Blue Knights. An Army veteran during the Vietnam War. Jack had also served as a Pennsylvania state constable for 27 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Pastor Geno Bartoletti, officiating. Military rites by Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks and Vintondale area veterans organizations.
