John J. Chicoli

SOUTH FORK — CHICOLI – John J. “Chico,” 78, South Fork, passed away July 21, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Aug. 14, 1934, in South Fork, son of John and Flora (Zoppi) Borsi-Chicoli. Preceded in death by loving wife, Florence M. “Tootsie” (Schrader) Chicoli, who died Jan. 13, 2005;  two infant sons; sister, Mary (Borsi) Slagle; infant brother, Hugo; and brothers, Homer and  Marsillio Borsi, and Paul, Pete, Raymond and Hugo Chicoli. Survived by children, Jean, wife of John Grunthaner, Trophy Club, Texas; Susan, wife of Larry Croce, Lorton, Va.; Nancy, wife of Mark Bodenschatz, Ebensburg; John A., married to Laurel Hess, Wildwood, Mo.; and Mary Ann, wife of Dave Slonac, Mechanicsburg. Proud grandfather of Christina, wife of Brain Thomas; John M. Grunthaner, married to Rachel; Matthew Croce, married to Mara; Andrew Croce, married to Diane; Brock, Logan and Simon Bodenschatz; John R. and Kaitlyn Chicoli; and Samantha, Nicholas and Zachary Slonac. Great-grandfather of Jacob and Dominic Croce. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Eloise (Sauter) Chicoli, Sidman; Theona (Hankinson) Chicoli, Ohio; and Naomi (Peel) Shrader, Cleveland, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was a graduate of South Fork Croyle High School, Class of 1953. He retired from Pennsylvania Compensation Rating Bureau in 1999. Faithful member of Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. John was a dedicated member of the community who enjoyed volunteering and helping others. He served on the South Fork Redevelopment Authority, former fire chief of South Fork Volunteer Fire Company, former mayor of South Fork Borough, past chapter president of South Fork JAYCEES, member and past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, Prince Gallitzin Council 2275 and president of St. James Cemetery Association. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Charles O. Dimond Funeral Home Inc., South Fork, where Knights of Columbus Council 2275 will pray the rosary at 3 p.m. Wednesday and where vigil for the deceased will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, South Fork, by Father Robert P. Reese. Committal, St. James Cemetery, South Fork. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. (
