EBENSBURG — SLOAN – Helen, 93, formerly of Turner Apartments, Ebensburg and Colver, passed away Nov. 14, 2012, at Miner’s Hospital of Northern Cambria County. Born May 26, 1919, in Lumphinnens, Fife, Scotland, daughter of the late John and Helen (Johnston) Low. Last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by husband, William; brothers, John and Jim Low; sister, Elizabeth Lorenzen; grandchildren, Steven and Mary Ellen Sloan and Nicole Marie Yoder; and son-in-law, Harold Bird. Survived by children, James (Carol) Sloan, Clarkston, Mich.; Helen Bird, Ravenna, Ohio; and Jean (James) Bloom and Janet (John) Yoder, all of Ebensburg; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She retired from Laurel Crest Manor and was a member of Colver Presbyterian Church. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Ebensburg, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Bill Plummer, lay minister, officiating. Interment, Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colver Presbyterian Church in Helen’s memory.
