JOHNSTOWN — IRVIN – Betty R., 88, Johnstown, died Dec. 8, 2013, at Cambria Care Center. Born July 6, 1925, in Johnstown, daughter of the late Earl and Emma (Boyer) Gates.  Preceded in death by husband, George Irvin; infant son, Robert Earl; sisters, Mildred Mitchell and Mary Jane Gates; brothers, Jack, William and Richard Gates; two infant siblings; and special cat, Tommy. Survived by daughter, Barbara, married to Pastor K. Dwayne Kauffman, Johnstown; son, George Irvin II, married to Barbara (Hunt), Johnstown; grandchildren, Jamie Taylor, married to Richard, Johnstown; Bruce Rowe, Claysburg; and Jeremiah Irvin, Johnstown; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Wanda Gates, New Florence; special friend, Nick; and her pinochle buddies. Betty loved to work and was retired from Department of Forestry and Water after 34 years of service as a fire tower lookout.  She liked going to blue grass festivals and camping. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Pastor Thomas Moore, officiating.  Private interment.  Arrangements in care of Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory Inc., “Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care.” Condolences may be sent at
