Ellen (Schwarting) Merker

DAVIDSVILLE — MERKER – Ellen (Schwarting), 89, passed away Dec. 7, 2013, in Davidsville. Born Aug. 18, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the older daughter of Robert and Meta Schwarting. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert (1988); and sister, Lillian (2013).  Ellen is survived by her children, Richard, married to Joanne, currently residing in Clifton, Va., and David, married to Pamela, currently residing in Fort Worth, Texas. She also has one grandson, Brett, residing in Manhattan, N.Y. Ellen grew up in Lynbrook, N.Y., and moved to Seaford, N.Y., after marriage, and subsequently relocated to Johnstown in 1975. After graduating from Lynbrook High School as salutatorian in 1942,  her initial employment was in the office of the president for the Texaco Oil Co., currently Chevron, in New York City. After moving to Seaford, N.Y., she worked for the Levittown Public Schools, and then retiring with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., Johnstown. Friends received from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, Pa. 15905, with funeral service at 4 p.m. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to Frank Duca Funeral Home or donations may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 337 Elknud Lane, Johnstown , Pa., in her memory.
