Vernon L. Sybert

STATE COLLEGE — SYBERT – Vernon L., 96, State College, formerly of Portage, passed away Oct. 9, 2012, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born Jan. 8, 1916, in Portage Township, son of John and Elizabeth (Biller) Sybert. Preceded in death by parents and siblings, Fabian Sybert, Margaret Keenan, Jennie Proudfit, William Sybert, Graven Sybert, Elizabeth Malloy and Kenneth Sybert. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Vernon was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Vernon is a 1934 graduate of Portage Township High School and a 1938 graduate of St. Francis College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. Member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and Portage Amvets. Vernon received excellent personal and professional care from the staffs of Elmcroft Senior Living and Mount Nittany Medical Center. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Portage. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Wilmore, Father Robert Reese, celebrant. Committal, St. Bartholomew Church Cemetery, with graveside military rites by Portage Veterans Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vernon’s name to People Helping People in care of St. Joseph Church, Portage.
