JOHNSTOWN — CARNEY – Galen W., 88, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord Oct. 14, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Jan. 2, 1924, in Johnstown, son of the late Charles C. and Dora E. (Metzger) Carney. Preceded in death by brother, Donald R. Carney; and sister, Clarice R. “Kay” Daughenbaugh. Survived by wife, Ethel Margaret (Rigo) Carney; daughter, Gail Ann, wife of the Rev. David B. Bowman, Meyersdale; as well as several nieces and nephews. Member of Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren and Richland American Legion Post 849. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Galen was a loving and good man, who lived a life of service to God, family, church, community and country. Friends received from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Phillip King, officiating. Interment, Grandview Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by members of Conemaugh Valley Detachment 287 Marine Corps League.
