WEST SUFFIELD, CONN. — LEONARD – John A. “Jack,” 77, West Suffield, Conn., passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Johnstown to the late James and Helena (Dollard) Leonard. He earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, his master’s degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and completed a Ph.D. from UConn. He came to Windsor Locks in 1959 to work at Hamilton Standard in the space and sea systems division and had been a West Suffield resident for the last 40 years. A member of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Southwick, he also was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Southwick, and the Sons of Erin in Westfield. A lifelong pilot and flight instructor, Jack received recognition for carrying multi-aviation licensure. He was extremely proud and honored to be a QB, as a member of the Quiet Birdmen-Hartford Hanger. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, but his greatest joy was raising his beloved daughters and granddaughters. He is survived by his daughters, Laura L. Estan, Hull, Mass., and Brenda L. Leonard, Windsor; his granddaughters, Heather A. Estan, Cambridge, Mass., and Sara K. Estan, Hull, Mass.; his sister, Madeline Keifline, and her husband, James, Cameron, W.Va.; his brother, Louis James Leonard, and his wife, Roberta, Littleton, Colo.; his former wife and companion, Mary Ann Townsend; and his beloved golden retriever, Bailey. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 224 Sheep Pasture Road, Southwick, Mass. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, Conn.
