Ruth L. Adams-Bennear

JOHNSTOWN — ADAMS-BENNEAR – Ruth L. 93, passed away Sept. 19, 2013, in Johnstown.  Born June 5, 1920, in Eden, Md. , daughter of Henry and Dora (Jones) Disharoon. Preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Harry W. Bennear; son, Dale W. Bennear; brothers, Woodrow and Henry; and sisters, Beatrice, Katherine, Elizabeth and Jean.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.  Ruth is survived by husband of 22 years, John E. Adams; children, Ruth Ann, wife of John Summers, Sarasota, Fla., and Harry D. Bennear, married to Mary Ann (Reilly); grandchildren, Aaron Bennear, married to Lori (Snyder), Raleigh, N.C.; Elizabeth Bennear Vural, Syracuse, N.Y.; and Christopher Bennear, married to Jennifer (Bennett), and Evan Bennear, all of Johnstown;  great-grandchildren, Sophia and Annabella Vural, Fiona and Isaac Bennear and Callie Bennear;  stepchildren, Kathleen Doering, Christine Powell, Jacqueline Dixon, Lorraine Scott, Mary Sharon Bevis, Carolyn Leventry and John C. Adams.  Ruth was a graduate of St. Elizabeth Hospital in the Cadet Nurse Corps in Washington, D.C., where she trained during World War II in the neuropsychiatric department.  She was co-owner of Dale Oxygen, and retired after 50 years of service.  Ruth enjoyed traveling with her family in their motor home across North America and spending time with her children and grandchildren at Cape May, N.J;, Deep Creek, Md.; and Sarasota, Fla. She also traveled throughout Europe to visit museums and the gardens that were one of her lifelong interests. She was a past president of the Rotary Ann Club and Quota Club and a long-standing member of Westmont Presbyterian Church. Friends and family received from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown, Pa., 15905.  Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Westmont Presbyterian Church.  Entombment, Grandview Mausoleum.
