LORETTO — KARABINOS – Mae C., 95, Loretto, died Sept. 27, 2013, at home. Born Feb. 12, 1918, in Gallitzin, daughter of the late Francis and Laura (Mack) Lynch. Preceded in death by husband, John A., on Nov. 24, 1976; sons, Anthony and Michael; infant siblings, Leroy, and twins, Ralph and Rosaline; brothers, Edward, Leo, Warren and Paul; and sister, Madeline. Survived by children, Bernie (Carol Lidwell), Ashville; Maggie Biter (Gary), Loretto; John V., Freeport; daughter-in-law, Rose (Grove) Karabinos, Cresson; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Helen Eckard, Canton, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Catherine “Cass” Lynch, Gallitzin, and Shirley Riley, Altoona; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mae enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and quilting. Worked as a cook at St. Francis Monastery for 13 years, worked for L. Robert Kimball, Ebensburg, several years and in several local restaurants. She was awarded the Prince Gallitzin Cross in 2000. Longtime sacristan at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Coupon, and the Basilica of St. Michael, Loretto. Promoter for the Miraculous Medal Society and served as a tour guide for Prince Gallitzin Chapel House, Loretto. Member of Loretto Senior Citizens; Altar-Rosary Society, where she was an active participant with its military mail campaign; and the Basilica of St. Michael, Loretto. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Basilica of St. Michael, Loretto, the Rev. Msgr. Timothy Swope and the Rev. Malachi Van Tassell, celebrants. Committal, St. Michael Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Association of the Miraculous Medal or Prince Gallitzin Chapel House Memorial Fund in Mae’s memory.
