Josephine Coppola

TEXAS — COPPOLA – Josephine, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother departed this world after a long illness Oct. 19,  2013. She was born Nov. 10, 1924. Preceded in death by husband, Alexander; brother, Carmen; and parents, Rosario and Josephine Trovato. Survived by her daughter, Paula, Austin, Texas; granddaughters, Jessica Holt and Rebecca Herr; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Greyson, all in Atlanta, Ga. Also survived by sisters, Rosalie Saccone and Mary Ann Romano; and brother, George Trovato, all of Johnstown; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and countless lifelong friends. Josephine, affectionately known as “Jo,” was born in Sicily, and at a very young age traveled to America with her family, where she grew up as the eldest of five children in Johnstown. She had a long and distinguished career of public service with Cambria County in Ebensburg, and after retirement, began a second career with CTC. While at Cambria County, she served as the executive administrator to the President County Commissioner and was lovingly referred to as the “4th Commissioner.” The list of people that she helped is indeed long and one of her true joys in life was helping those in need. She also was a tireless campaigner for the party and raised significant sums of money with her “gentle persuasion.” The parish of St. Anthony’s figured prominently in her life as she professed her devout Catholic faith and volunteered her time for the good of the community. Her other joys revolved around her family. Every Sunday, dinners were a great tradition with the family gathering to share an Italian feast and good times together. Cooking was her passion and everyone looked forward to the family production of homemade ravioli, meatballs, veal cutlets and Christmas cookies. She also enjoyed spending time and taking many trips with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters. For her 75th birthday, she had the opportunity to return to the town of her birth in Monforte San Giorgio, near Messina, where she reunited with cousins. Two memorial services will be held Friday, Oct. 25, to celebrate her life. The first celebration will be held at 11 a.m. at Our Mother of Sorrows Church in Johnstown and the second will be held at 3 p.m. at Emmaus Catholic Church in Lakeway, Texas. The family has requested donations, in lieu of flowers, to be made to either the Alzheimer’s Association ( or 800-272-3900); or Hospice of the Hills, 11719 Bee Caves Road, Suite 100, Bee Caves Texas 78738 (512-614-2851). She was loved by many and returned home to God, but she will forever reside in our hearts.

Do you think that Jack Williams will get the 270 signatures from city residents needed in order to have a referendum placed on a municipal ballot to have the city's pressure test mandate repealed?

I'm not sure
