Wilbert Aaron Martinez

JOHNSTOWN — MARTINEZ – Wilbert Aaron, 67, Johnstown, known by family as “Winky” and by friends as “Papa Smurf” entered the kingdom of heaven Oct. 26, 2013. He had just learned he had a mass on his pancreas and passed into eternity a few days later. Born Dec. 31, 1945, in Johnstown, and spent the majority of his lifetime in Johnstown. He attended Oakland United Methodist Church. Wilbert’s favorite things to do were listen to music and dance. He loved his work and he loved people. He is known for his tender heart and was always willing to help others in need. Wilbert graduated from Franklin Borough High School. He was an employee for The Association of the Blind and dearly loved the people he worked with. He met Betty Fisher and was engaged to be married in the near future. Wilbert will be greeted at the gates of heaven by his parents, Guadalupe and Theresa Martinez; infant brothers, Rudy Martinez and Roberto Martinez; infant sisters, Emma Martinez, Florence Martinez and Maryanna Martinez; adult brothers and sisters, Fred Martinez, Santa Barbara, Calif.; David Martinez, Norfolk, Va.; Roger Martinez, Norfolk, Va.; Gloria Martinez-Ringenberg, Norfolk, Va.; Amelia Martinez Duncan, Highpoint, N.C.; and Arthur Martinez, Highpoint, N.C.; and nephew, Freddy Martinez, Santa Barbara, Calif. Wilbert is survived by sister, Rev. Perla Martinez-Goody, Pauls Valley, Okla.; and nieces and nephews of California: Ramona Switzer, Irene Fredricey, Toni Martinez and Rick and Jody Martinez; Teri and Allen Smith, New Mexico; Carla and Rick Riedel, Arizona; nieces and nephews of Highpoint, N.C.: Theresa Martinez-Carnahan, Melanie Martinez, Sheri Duncan Boone and Brad Duncan; nieces and nephews of Harrisburg:  Yvonne and James Barbush and Elaine Smith; nieces and nephews of Texas: Kimberlee Ann and Char Hawkins and Rev. Stephen and Karen Martinez; and nephews of Norfolk, Va.: Kenny Ringenberg, Kevin Ringenberg and David Ringenberg. Wilbert “Winky” “Papa Smurf” will be surely missed by all his friends and family. There will be no visitation, however a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., the Rev. Randy Bain, officiating.
