WINDBER — STARCHVILLE – Thomas F. “Sonny,” 71, Windber, died April 27, 2013, at Arbutus Park Manor and Retirement Center. Born Aug. 6, 1941, in Lilly, son of the late John and Pearl (Dubis) Starchville. Also preceded in death by brother, Stanley “Bushie” Starchville; and sisters, Ann George, Florence Michalovsky, Regina Wetklow and Josephine Yogus. Survived by wife of 46 years, the former Barbara Veres; son, Thomas F. Jr., married to the former Amy Sheahan, Leesburg, Va.; daughter, Michelle M., wife of James Cain, Yardley, Pa.; and grandchildren, Katherine Paula Starchville, Matthew Thomas Starchville and Stephen Joseph Cain. Brother of Bernadette Hmiel, Lilly; and Bernadine Scoran, Portage. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was a schoolteacher for 34 years in the Forest Hills School District. Former member of the former St. Mary’s Hungarian Catholic Church and a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber; Holy Name Society; New Germany Knights of Columbus; All Saints Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Johnstown; and Windber Fire Company. He was a cook at the church hall. Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Concelebrated funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Church, Windber. Committal, All Faiths Chapel and Mausoleum, Windber. Memorial contributions may be made to Arbutus Park Manor and Retirement Center or Windber Hospice in Tom’s memory.
