Walter Paul Stupi

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP — STUPI – Walter “Wad” Paul, 98, Hampton Township, Pa., passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Son of the late Joseph and Veronica (Valler) Stupi, he was married to the late Angeline (Nastase) Stupi from June 4, 1938, until her death in 2004. He owned and operated Stupi’s Market in Beaverdale for 62 years, Wilmore Cafe in Wilmore and Friendly Tavern in Claysburg. A parishioner, council member and Holy Name Society member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beaverdale; charter member of Beaverdale Volunteer Fire Company; and retired member of the State Workman’s Insurance Fund. An active player in baseball, softball and basketball in the Tri-county area’s industrial leagues, he also was a PIAA basketball referee for 13 years. The oldest of the Stupi Brothers basketball team, he played and won in “family tournaments” on the eastern seaboard. An avid horse racing fan, top notch fisherman and extreme Pittsburgh sports enthusiast, cheering the Pirates, Steelers, Panthers and Penguins. His biggest thrill was meeting and shaking hands with President John F. Kennedy. Survived by his daughter, Angela; son, Thaddeus; sister, Mildred Andrykovitch; and grandchildren, Teresa (Jake) Marais, Michael (Laura), Joseph (Meghan) and Gregory (Collette); also great-grandchildren, Reese, Ashley, Avery and Anthony. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by son, Wally Stupi; and brothers, John, Anthony, Stanley, Theodore, Raymond, Chester, Benjamin, Edward and Richard. Visitation was held Thursday, April 10, at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, at St. Catherine Of Sweden Roman Catholic Church, Wildwood, Pa. Friends will be received from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday at Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Beaverdale. Committal will be held at noon Saturday at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Beaverdale. Memorial donations may be made in support of St. Catherine of Sweden Building Fund, 2554 Wildwood Road, P.O. Box 246, Wildwood, Pa. 15091.
