KEARNEY, NEB. — PERRY – Sister Grace Michael, 83, Sister of the Corpus Christi Carmel Order of Kearney, Neb., originally of Johnstown, died Feb. 11, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Neb. Born March 31, 1929, in Johnstown, to Michael and Frances (Urso Pernice) Perry. Preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Marie (Simone); brothers, Samuel, Dominick and Ernest Perry; and brothers-in-law, William D. Giannone and Peter Mazzarese. Survivors include her sisters, Vita Giannone and Dolly Mazzarese; and sisters-in-law, Rose Perry and Mary Louise Perry; also many nieces and nephews. Sister Grace spent the past 63 years serving God as a Carmelite Sister. She entered the Corpus Christi Carmel on Jan. 10, 1950, and made her final vows on Sept. 9, 1954. She received her bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences from Mount Angel College in Mount Angel, Ore. Sister Grace attended certified studies at Regina Mundi Pontifical Institute for Religious in Rome. She spent three summers studying Thomistic Sacred Theology in Providence R.I. Sister Grace served her community as superior, novice director and retreat director. She spent most of her life in pastoral ministry as a religious education teacher, parish visiting, census taking and convert instructions. She taught kindergarten in Pennsylvania and Oregon. She also was the director of religious education for St. Benedict in Johnstown, St. Augustine in Oregon and Prince of Peace in Kearney, Neb. Sister Grace traveled as the community’s general chapter delegate to England, West Indies and Rhode Island. She enjoyed making Mass vestments, banners, rosaries and various crafts. Grace celebrated her Golden Jubilee in the year 2000 in Johnstown. In her later years, she helped out at Mount Carmel Nursing Home prior to becoming a resident. Her community is very grateful to the Lord for her life among them and the joy she brought to all who knew her. They think the Lord welcomed her into heaven with these beautiful words, “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.” Service will be held Friday, Feb. 15 at Mount Carmel Home Chapel, Kearney, Neb. For family and friends from Johnstown, a memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Johnstown, the Rev. Matthew Reese, officiating.
