JOHNSTOWN — SHANK – Kenneth Louis Jr., 83, Johnstown, departed peacefully surrounded by loved ones Oct. 10, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Preceded in death by parents, Kenneth Louis Sr. and Harriet (Morris) Shank; stepmother, Margaret; and grandsons, Ryan Lorditch, Josh Shank and Zach Bretz. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Delores (Katcher) Shank; children, Ken; Chris, wife of Don Lorditch; Barb, wife of Barry Petro; Vicki, wife of Ralph Bretz; Sandy, wife of Kevin Varner; Tim, partner of Jim Kruppenbacher; and Karen, wife of Joe Stibich; grandchildren, Megan Murphy, Samantha Young, Amber Burkett, Nathan Balko, Matt and Ben Petro, Kate Curcio, Kyley Shank, Laura and Joe Stibich, Travis and Olivia Varner and R.J. Morales; and six great-grandchildren. Also survived by stepbrothers and stepsisters, Mary Jane Woods, Lois Rhodes and Tom and Bob Moran. He retired from Bethlehem Steel after 32 years of service, and served in the U.S. Army in the 5th Infantry Division, 628th Tank Battalion. He loved his dog, Chloe, gardening and hanging out with his friends at the Band Hall and the Pyramids. If you wanted a geography lesson, go for a drive with Ken and you’ll never travel the same road twice. He also enjoyed the outdoors and spotting deer. He was the best father and grandfather in the world and he will be sadly missed. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., 710 Broad St., where funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Father Bernard Karmanocky, OFM. Committal, Benshoff Hill Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society.
