Francis C. Krug

EBENSBURG — KRUG – Francis C., 79, Ebensburg, passed away Oct. 30, 2013, at his home. Born July 25, 1934 in the former Miner’s Hospital, Spangler, son of Reed and Katherine (Pfiester) Krug. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Katherine Smarsh. Survived by his wife, Nancy (Lubert) Krug, formerly of Hastings, whom he married May 18, 1968; brothers, Dalvin (Janet) Krug, York; Edward (Jean) Krug, Cherry Tree; James (Eleanor) Krug, South Fork; and Paul Krug, Cherry Tree; and many beautiful nieces and nephews and a grandniece. Francis was a graduate of Barnesboro Area High School and a graduate of Electronic and Communications Technical School in Washington, D.C. He was the previous owner of Radio Station WEND AM Ebensburg, where he hosted the Fran K. show, and his wife, Nancy, hosted Nancy’s Polka Beat from the County Seat. He also was the previous owner and retired from his business Telecom Electronics in Ebensburg, where he sold and serviced, police, fire and ambulance communication equipment from seven towers located in the area. He was a popular ham radio operator, where he was a lifetime member of Horseshoe Curve Ammature Radio Club and Cambria County Radio Club with the call letters KA3ZYC. Member of  St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He and his wife were pleased to be able to donate the lights there that illuminate the church steeple and to donate their favorite saints statues, St. Benedict, and his twin sister, St. Scholastica, that grace the front entrance of the church. Member of Ebensburg Rotary Club, having served under all positions and receiving the Paul Harris Fellowship award from the national organization. He participated in the communities holiday celebrations where his specialty was making potato soup for the fall Potato Festival from his secret recipe, now buried in the backyard. Visitation will be held privately for family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown. Interment, church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association. Arrangements are under the direction of  Stevens Funeral Home Inc., Carrolltown.
