CARROLLTOWN — KIRSCH – Joel J. “Joe,” 71, Carrolltown, passed away Aug. 24, 2013, at UPMC Altoona. He was born April 27, 1942, in Nicktown, son of Bernard and Rosa (Burns) Kirsch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Kirsch, and brothers, Pete and Edward Kirsch. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Cunningham) Kirsch, whom he married Aug. 21, 1965; daughter, Carlene (Leroy) Farabaugh, Harrisburg; granddaughters, Courtney and Chelsea Farabaugh and numerous grandpets; brothers, Robert Kirsch, Northern Cambria; Allen Kirsch; and Gary Kirsch, both of Nicktown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was a retired miner from Bethlehem 33 Mine. Member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, and enjoyed flea markets, metal detecting, hunting, motorcycling, playing cards, bingo and was an avid Steelers fan. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 146 N. Main St., Carrolltown, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Additional viewing will be held from 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, the Rev. Jude W. Brady, OSB, celebrant. Interment, church cemetery.
