COOK COUNTY, ILL. — McGEEVER – Robert F., 93, native of Johnstown, resident of Cook County, Ill., died Sept. 1, 2013. He was the son of the late Edward and Stella (Riley) McGeever. Mr. McGeever graduated from Johnstown Catholic High School, Class of 1938, and was an alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh where he majored in physics and mathematics. A major, U.S. Marine Corps (retired), Mr. McGeever served as a combat infantry officer in the Pacific area during World War II. In 1987, he retired from a 40-year business career during which he held senior marketing and engineering management positions with Aluminum Co. of America and Hughes Electronics Co. Most of his professional years were spent in California where he also was an active participant in many business and community organizations. He returned to Pennsylvania in 1993, later moving with his son, Casey’s family to Chicago. In addition to his parents, Mr. McGeever was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Mary Clare Keelan, also a native of Johnstown; daughter, Janet; son, Brian; and brothers, Raymond and Francis “Ed.” Survived by daughter, Eileen Rushall, San Diego, Calif.; and son, Casey, Palatine, Ill.; son-in-law, Bruce Rushall; daughter-in-law, Jocelyne McGeever; and four grandchildren. Robert McGeever enjoyed a long and fascinating life. He traveled all over the world in pursuit of his business interests and in service to his country. He was a patriot, an intellectual and a close observer of the human condition, both past and present. He had a keen interest in history of all kinds, and was a voracious reader, blessed with good eyesight until the end. He maintained a cheerful and positive demeanor in the face of adversity, and often stated that every morning he woke up, he was simply glad to be here. He made his own end of life arrangements with an eye to causing as little stress as possible for his children, whom he loved dearly. Robert McGeever was among the last of the Greatest Generation to pass from this stage. We can only love and honor him in our memories. We will not see his like again soon. Funeral arrangements were private, with burial in Grandview Cemetery.
