HASTINGS — MURPHY – Eugene H. “Buckeye,” 91, Hastings, died Dec. 26, 2012, at Miners Medical Center. Born Nov. 6, 1921, in Slickport, Pa., son of the late Harry and Lucinda (Weakland) Murphy. Preceded in death by wife, the former Carmela Ciranni; and brothers and sisters, John, William “Dick,” Leo, Jeanette Uhron and Mildred “Sister Catherine” Murphy. Survived by daughter, Lucinda Murphy Kline, Indiana, Pa.; sons, Harry, Canonsburg; and Jeffrey, Chesapeake, Va.; and granddaughters, Kristin Kline (Joshua), Mount Laurel, N.J.; and Kathryn Kline (Timothy), West Mifflin, Pa. Buckeye was a U.S. Army master sergeant with the 437th TCG, 86 Squadron during World War II; was in the European Theater with the Army Air Corps; member of UMWA; was a coal miner with Rich Hill and Barnes & Tucker; attended St. Francis University; received his underground electricians certificate from Penn State; and was a life member of VFW Post 1586, American Legion, Firemen’s Club and St. Bernard Catholic Church. Also a member of Hastings Drum and Bugle Corps following World War II. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Easly-Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc., 333 Beaver St., Hastings. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Father Thaddeus Rettger, OSB, officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Military honors will be performed by Hastings VFW Ritual Team.
