Marjorie G. (Flick) Ling

HOOVERSVILLE — LING – Marjorie G. (Flick). On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 18, 2014, Marjorie departed this life after 89 years, following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. We will all miss her sweet and pleasant presence. Marjorie was born at home in Somerset on Monday, Jan. 19, 1925, daughter of Herbert and Mary Flick. She and her husband, Hubert, resided in Hooversville for more than 61 years, before moving to Laurel View Village in Davidsville. Survived by her husband of 67 years, Hubert Ling Sr., who resides at Laurel View Village; and loving children, Ronald (Linda) Ling, Johnstown; Eda (Joe) Champanella, Hooversville; and Jean (Evan) Jarvis,  Stoystown; also her daughter-in-law, Lori Ling, Berlin. Grandmother to Ronette (Ling) Mucker, Justine and Patrick Ling, Stephanie (Ling) Hay and Evan and Colin Jarvis; great-grandmother to Lacie George, Brandon Hody, Derrick Varnish, Tyler Moore, Hayden Ling, Ryan and Alex Ginter and  Wyatt Hay; and great-great-grandmother to Charlie George. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was devastated by the loss of her son, Hubert Ling Jr., on May 28, 2012. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, which included her brother, Charles Flick; and sisters, Mary Catherine Flick, Keturah (Tury) Horner, Ethel Brant and Genevieve Cree, and another sister who died as an infant. Marjorie grew up on the family farm during the Great Depression and left school at the age of 16 to work as a nanny, cook and housekeeper for a well-to-do family with homes in Somerset and Florida. After, she worked as a clerk in Knapp’s Drugstore in Somerset. She and Hubert were married on Aug. 25, 1946, when he returned from service in World War II. After their marriage, Marjorie dedicated her life to caring for her husband, children and extended family. She loved flowers and gardening, was a wonderful cook and baker, an accomplished seamstress who did beautiful embroidery, and she loved watching NASCAR racing on TV. She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hooversville. The family would like to thank Laurel View Village and Windber Hospice for their dedicated and loving care. Family and friends may pay their last respects from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Hooversville. Viewing also from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hooversville, the Rev. Walter L. Startzel, officiating. Interment, St. Thomas Cemetery. (
