Daniel A. Vavrek Sr.

VAVREK– Daniel A. Sr., 60, Johnstown, went to be with the Lord Dec. 18, 2009, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Sept. 26, 1949, in Johnstown, son of Michael and Julia (Elliott) Vavrek. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Mary Louise Alexas. Survived by devoted wife of 39 years, the former Nancy (DeCoske) Vavrek; these loving children, Christi Vavrek, Daniel A. Vavrek Jr. and Michael Vavrek, and significant other, Heather Black, all of Johnstown, and Amy, wife of Brian Been, Hollsopple; grandchildren, Logan, Skylar and Mylee Been, Michael Ray Black-Vavrek. Brother of Michael Vavrek, Michigan. Retired from Johnstown America Corp. as a mettallurgical sand technician. Also retired as an assistant manager of the former West End Riverside Market. Former secretary of Johnstown Rifle Club. Dan was an avid bike rider and a military historian. Member of Rosary Altar Society and served as a Eucharistic minister at Visitation BVM Catholic Church, were funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Barry Baroni. Committal, Grandview Cemetery. Friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street.
