Roethlisberger not ready to talk about contract

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger isn’t ready to talk about getting a new long-term deal.

Roethlisberger said Wednesday he is “extremely happy” with the Steelers and will do whatever is necessary to stay in Pittsburgh. Roethlisberger’s contract expires after the 2015 season.

The Steelers traditionally try to reach agreement on new deals with their quarterbacks two years before their contracts are up.

The 31-year-old is scheduled to make a base salary of $12.1 million in 2014 and $11.5 million in 2015. His salary cap number for both seasons is over $18 million because of signing bonuses.

Roethlisberger said he’ll be happy to discuss a new contract “when the time comes.”

Roethlisberger was selected the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 367 yards and four touchdowns against the Lions.
