Ex-Steeler Okobi fined $100 after plea in bar beef

PITTSBURGH — Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Chukky Okobi has been fined $100 after pleading guilty to harassment in a bar fight last year.

Okobi was originally charged with five counts of simple assault after several people confronted him when he argued with his girlfriend at a South Side bar on Aug. 25.

A district judge dismissed four of those charges, but allowed the fifth to go to trial. That charge was reduced Monday to harassment before Okobi pleaded guilty in front of an Allegheny County judge.

Okobi didn’t comment. His attorney, Robert DelGreco, acknowledges there was a factual basis for the charge involving the bouncer, who claimed Okobi punched him. DelGreco says Okobi is “satisfied with the favorable outcome.”

The 34-year-old played seven NFL seasons, including from 2001 to 2006 with Pittsburgh.

Dan Byslma can understand getting outplayed. It happens to even the most experienced hockey teams during the long postseason slog to the Stanley Cup.
The one thing the Pittsburgh coach can’t abide is getting outworked, something that Bylsma has watched happen far too often in the opening round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are five games under .500 less than a month into the season but they insist there is no reason to panic.
Ryan Ludwick lined a two-run double after two Cincinnati batters were hit by pitches, lifting Tony Cingrani and the Reds over the Pirates 2-1 on Thursday.
The Pirates have lost six of seven, scoring a total of 22 runs in that span. The skid has dropped Pittsburgh to 9-14, a year after they had both their first winning season and playoff appearance since 1992.
