Chiefs shuffle lineup

BY MIKE MASTOVICH

The Johnstown Chiefs lost one high-scoring forward and got another one back on Thursday.

The ECHL’s Chiefs and AHL’s Springfield Falcons rotated players, sending Stanislav Lascek to Johnstown and Radek Smolenak to Springfield.

The Chiefs lineup will be slightly different for tonight’s 7:30 game against the Dayton Bombers at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

Smolenak played in 30 games for the Chiefs. He had a team-high 12 goals and ranked fourth with 22 points. In two earlier games with Springfield, the 6-foot-3 native of Prague, Czech Republic, didn’t score a point.

Lascek appeared in 26 games with the Falcons, netting two goals and four points. The native of Martin, Slovakia, began the season in Johnstown and was the team’s leading scorer when he was recalled in November. He had five goals and 15 points in 10 ECHL games.

Smolenak joins Lascek, Randy Rowe, Maxime Boisclair and Jean Desrochers as players who led the Chiefs in either goals or points when they were recalled to Springfield.

Desrochers has since returned to Johnstown. Rowe and Boisclair are still on the Falcons’ roster.

Boisclair participated in the ECHL All-Star Game in Boise, Idaho, on Wednesday and had two assists in the American Conference’s 6-3 win over the National Conference at Qwest Arena.

Notes: The Bombers visit the War Memorial for the first time since Feb. 25, a span of 328 days. ... Johnstown rookie Eric Przepiorka has six points, including three goals, in his past seven games. ... The Chiefs average 18.4 penalty minutes a game, the third-lowest total in the ECHL.
