These girls are bad, but God sees them as good.
A seminar on “Bad Girls of the Bible” will be presented from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Heavenly Sent Ministries, 429 Second St., Conemaugh.
A group of 11 local women from different churches and denominations will give their own interpretations of women in Scripture.
“ ‘Bad Girls of the Bible’ will dramatize the bad deeds of these women and how God offered forgiveness and utilized them to spread the good news and glorify him,” said the Rev. Richard S. Williams, pastor of Heavenly Sent Ministries.
“It is our wish that all those who view this dramatization will shed any guilt or shame, which keeps them shackled and feeling unloved and useless.”
The dramatizations are inspired by a series of books by Christian author Liz Curtis Higgs.
The biblical women to be portrayed are Rahab, Delilah, Bathsheba, Jael, Jezebel, Gomer, the woman at the well, Herodias, Mary Magdalene, Potiphar’s wife and the woman caught in adultery.
“God and his son helped these women to overcome their sins and sinful nature,” Williams said. “He became their burden-bearer and trouble-sharer. He is still doing that today if we allow him.”
Registration will be held from 8 to 9 a.m., and a continental breakfast will be served.
From 9:15 to noon, the first half of the dramatization will be held.
A lunch break will be held from noon to 1:15, with lunch provided. The second half of the program will be presented from 1:30 to 3:30.
“They will tell where in the Bible their story can be found,” Williams said. “I’d like people to see how they can shed their victim mentality. They can come out of their shells and be productive. This will change their lives forever.”
There will be door prizes, and guests will receive a souvenir.
Johnstown native Mary Ann Billingsley, founder of Refresh-Her Ministries of Mansfield, Texas, will sum up the seminar at the worship service at 11 a.m. Sept. 20.
After the service, the public is invited to meet the cast at 1.
Tickets, which are $20, will be available at the door the day of the event and at these locations in advance: Dolly’s Video, 631 Franklin St.; Mr. Simon’s, 130 Clinton St.; George’s Song Shop, 128 Market St.; Princess Palace, 130 Clinton St.; and Cassandra’s, 111 Walnut St.
