Harvest in the Park | Free entertainment, food at Windber Rec

BY RUTH RICE

RRICE@TRIBDEM.COM

The sixth annual Harvest in the Park, a free, interdenominational event, will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Windber Recreation Park, Route 160.

Hamburgers, hot dogs and baked goods will be served free of charge in the park’s main building.

Donations will be accepted, but are not expected.

A big change this year is that most of the entertainment will be presented indoors at the park’s main building, said Harvest in the Park committee member Judy Custer.

“That’s a big improvement,” Custer said. “The groups have told us so.”

Custer is a first-time committee member.

“After I saw it, I was impressed,” Custer said. “I got involved because my husband did, and I enjoyed doing it.”

Two praise bands will perform outdoors in the first pavilion.

Life’s Long Walk will play from 11 a.m. to noon and Cloud of Grace will take the stage from 12:30 to 1:30.

There will be hayrides; children’s games from noon to 2; Classic Clowns from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and skateboard demonstrations by Crucified Ministries.

Mustard Seed of Patton will present a children’s drama with puppets at 12:30 in the park’s ballroom.

Entertainment inside the ballroom will open with vocalist Kent McClain, who will serve as master of ceremonies, at 11; Carry Light at 11:30; The Masters at 1:30; Next Level Youth and Ablaze Kidz Ministry from Windber Church of God with a children’s drama at 2; Roy Gearhart interpreting a biblical character at 2:45; vocalist Wayne Kaufman at 3:30; and interpretive dance ministry Tapestry of Praise at 4.

The entertainment will end with performances by Paul Stephenson at 4:45 and Mike Benford at 5:15.

There also will be an altar and prayer tree in the main building, where an art and writing exhibit will be on display, and information on the various ministries will be available.

A community worship service will be held from 6 to 7 in the main building.

Worship music will be led by Joe Inman, and four pastors will speak.

The pastors are the Rev. Fred Monk of Scalp Level Trinity United Methodist Church, the Rev. David McGee of Windber Assembly of God, the Rev. Rick Smith of Windber Church of God and the Rev. Hyung-Suk Joe of Windber Calvary United Methodist Church.

“This is a great thing for Windber,” Custer said.

“I hope we have good weather. We sent literature out to area churches.”
