Christian leaders to focus on marriage at prayer breakfast

A positive outlook on marriage will be a side dish during Cornerstone Leadership Foundation’s sixth annual prayer breakfast.

“Developing a Godly Marriage” is the theme for the gathering to be held at 7 a.m. Oct. 7 at the Living/Learning Center at Pitt-Johnstown in Richland Township.

Cornerstone Leadership Foundation (CLF), a local faith-based nonprofit, invites pastors, ministry leaders, counselors, youth leaders and volunteers to attend the 90-minute event.

Jim Kovalik of Upper Yoder Township, executive director of CLF, wants those in attendance to share marriage counseling resources.

He wants attendees to join the Godly Marriage Task Force, which is being formed to provide resources and direction to better prepare couples for marriage and to strengthen existing marriages.

“We want to discuss how Christian marriages can grow by examining the strengths and weaknesses associated with marriage,” he said.

“We also want to explore offering fall or spring premarriage sessions as well as develop a program for more seasoned couples on keeping marriages fresh.”

Kovalik stated that strong marriages are the foundation for healthy families, churches and society in general.

He said the task force has the potential to muster ministries to collaborate on resources that others can use.

“Marriage is hard work and couples should realize that it takes a big effort to maintain a strong and healthy relationship,” Kovalik said.

The breakfast also provides an opportunity for Christian leaders and groups to get to know one another.

“We will have a short introduction of each pastor or minister new to the region during the past year,” Kovalik said.

Kovalik said the foundation will introduce its new Web site: www.HisKingdomConnections.com.

“We are concerned about the condition of Christian marriages and want to help in positive ways,” Kovalik said.

“The Web site is a good way for us to work together, combine our efforts, share resources and learn from one another.”

Cost of the event is $10, and will feature a buffet breakfast at the center’s Heritage Hall.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling Kovalik at 255-7400 or foundation member Donna Crowe at 255-7965 by Thursday.
