BASKETBALL

Lintner earns national honor

GREENSBURG – Junior forward Katie Lintner, a Westmont Hilltop graduate, was a WBCA Division II National Player of the Month honorable mention selection for December.

Lintner led the Griffins to a 3-1 month by averaging 19.8 points and 12.5 rebounds a game. She had three double-doubles.

Lintner had 16 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Shepherd.

She had 30 points and eight boards in a win over East Stroudsburg. Lintner had 19 points and 17 rebounds in a victory over then-No. 15 Shippensburg. She had 14 points and 11 rebounds against Slippery Rock.



SOFTBALL

St. Francis adds three recruits

LORETTO – St. Francis University softball coach Sabrina Lane has signed three players to national letters-of-intent.

The recruits are outfielder Karlie Miller of Wildomar, Calif.; first baseman-outfielder-pitcher Taylor Darneille of Fircrest, Wash.; and third baseman Kayla Trinkle of Northampton.



BASEBALL

Curve cutting ticket prices

ALTOONA – The Altoona Curve announced a reduction in single-game and season-ticket pricing for 2009 season. 

Tickets will be reduced by $1 on individual tickets in the Diamond Club (100 Level), Grandstand (300 Level) and UPMC Health Plan Outfield Bleacher areas. Additionally, the “Rail Kings” individual tickets on the Toyota Party Deck will be reduced by $2. 

Season-ticket holders will save even more. Having previously received 10 percent off regular, single-game prices, season-ticket holders will get a $1 discount per ticket off of the regular, single-game rate.

Also Wednesday, the Curve announced that veteran Ron Potesta will join the Altoona broadcast team while Dan Zangrilli returns for his second season in the Blair County Ballpark radio booth.

Now in his 12th season of broadcasting professional baseball, Potesta spent the previous six years with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx.  He served as the Director of Broadcasting/Media Relations for the Double-A Southern League club. 

In additional to serving his on-air role, Potesta will work in the sponsorship sales and media relations departments.

Zangrilli enters his fourth year in professional baseball and his second with Altoona. Prior to joining the Curve broadcast booth last year, he spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons with the State College Spikes.



TRACK

Flash thrower has big week

St. Francis University shot-putter Josh Hazen earned NEC men’s field athlete of the week.

The senior put the shot farther than any NEC athlete this season while competing at the Penn State Relays. His winning distance was 53-101/4 feet.
