Thiel honored at PSAC meet

Clarion University’s Ryan Thiel earned male Swimmer of the Meet honors in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Meet Thursday through Sunday at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.
Thiel, a Ligonier Valley graduate, won the 50-yard freestyle in 20.64, the 200-yard freestyle in 1:41.23 and 100-yard freestyle in 45.67, an NCAA qualifying time.
The former Mounties swimmer also swam on several relays for the Golden Eagles.
Thiel, anchoring the 200-yard freestyle relay, helped the quartet to a second-place finish in 1:24.18.
Thiel was also the anchor on the 400-yard medley relay, 400-yard freestyle relay and 800-yard freestyle relay, which all finished second.
Clarion freshman Jon Kohmehl, a former Richland swimmer, was third in the 200-yard backstroke, fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and seventh in the 200-yard indivdual medley.
IUP’s Jen Price, a Westmont Hilltop graduate, was third in the 500-yard freestyle, fifth in the 200-yard freestyle and she was also the anchor on the 800-yard freestyle relay, which finished third.
Bloomsburg University’s David Mancinelli, another former Hilltopper, was part of the Huskies’ fifth-place 800-yard freestyle relay and sixth-place 200-yard freestyle relay.
