Mounties drop one in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. – Mount Aloysius dropped a 7-2 game to Carthage on Saturday afternoon.

Northern Cambria’s Josh Nagle went 2-for-4 and Brian Nolan went 2-for-4 and scored for the Mounties. Durrel Hutzell-Ellis pitched 6 2/3 innings and earned the loss.

Mount Aloysius plays Framingham State in a doubleheader today.

Freshour strong as Shippensburg sweeps doubleheader

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University juniors Matt Wright and Richland graduate Tim Freshour used strong pitching performances as the Red Raiders opened their 2008 home schedule with back-to-back shutouts in PSAC crossover action against Bloomsburg on Saturday, 13-0 and 1-0.

Shippensburg (11-9) has won 10 of its past 12 games while posting its fourth win in as many contests against North Atlantic Region opponents.

In the second game, Freshour’s complete-game effort – his third this season – ran his record to 5-1 in six starts. He surrendered four hits and struck out a season-high six batters.

BASKETBALL

The Young People’s Community Center will sponsor a basketball game between Pittsburgh Steelers players and the YPCC No-Stars at 8 p.m. April 15 at Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg.

Tickets cost $7.
