Rowles and Balash give Windber silver

Tussey Mountain’s tandem of Peter Riley and Bruno DeBock captured the District 5 boys tennis doubles title with a straight sets win over Windber’s Darren Rowles and Dom Balash on Monday.
Riley and DeBock beat Rowles and Balash 7-5, 6-3 in the final match of the tournament, which was held at North Fork Golf & Tennis Club because of inclement weather.
The Windber seniors beat another Titans team in the semifinals, as Rowles and Balash scored a 10-2 victory over Tussey Mountain’s Kent Mills and Thomas Keifman.
Rowles and Balash had a tougher time in the quarterfinals, where they eked out an 11-9 win over Bedford’s Maulik Patel and Kyle Morris.
Tussey Mountain’s title-winners beat the other Bedford pairing – Adam Helsel and Ben Heidorn – 10-6 in the semifinal round and shut out Forbes Road’s Lucas Hale and Tim Mills 10-0 in the quarterfinals.
Windber’s Brandon Shetler andJesse Jodon scored a 10-1 victory over Hyndman’s Derek Spiker and Nathan Bingman in a first-round match. Mills and Keifman were victorious in the only other first-round match, beating Forbes Road’s CodyHoffman and Brianna Haines 10-0.
Mills and Keifman went on to an 11-10 (7-5) win over Hyndman’s Shawn Bistline and Tyler Spiker while Helsel and Heidorn eliminated Shetler and Jodon.
