West Chester rallied for seven runs in the final four innings to overcome a four-run deficit in a 7-4 NCAA Division II North Atlantic Regional tournament victory against Concord at Johnstown’s Point Stadium.
Eighth-inning doubles by Matt Cotellese, Kyle Bechter and Bob Stumpo produced a pair of runs for the top-seeded Rams as they took the lead for good at 5-4.
Concord (35-15) jumped out to a quick 3-0 edge in the bottom of the first.
West Chester faces Shippensburg today at 11 a.m.
Kutztown 2, West Virginia State 1
Kutztown’s Philip Rummel frustrated West Virginia State’s powerful offense as the Golden Bears stayed alive in the tournament.
Rummel limited Yellow Jackets hitters to only one hit in 12 at-bats with runners in scoring position. The WVSU cause was also harmed by a caught stealing, two runners lost on the basepaths, and a pair of double plays.
Kutztown pushed across the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Kutztown (31-25) faces Pitt-Johnstown today at 3 p.m.
