McCONNELLSBURG – With a 75 on his card, Bedford’s Cameron Sprowls claimed the District 5 Boys Tournament championship at Great Cove Golf Course.
North Star’s Steve Brown, along with Sprowls, also qualified for the PIAA regional qualifier at Tom’s Run Golf Course in Blairsville on Oct. 15.
Brown placed second with a 77. Everett’s Brady Smith (79) and Bedford’s Byron Rose (85) followed with Everett’s Jesse Newman and Northern Bedford’s Matt Snyder tying for fifth with matching 87s.
The Bisons’ team total of 348 allowed Bedford to advance to the regional team qualifier at Tom’s Run on Oct. 15.
Pelesky easily snags girls championship
In the girls tournament, North Star’s Sarah Pelesky totaled an 86, easily distancing herself from teammate Kristen Walker, who shot a 103. Pelesky advanced to the girls regional tournament at Tom’s Run on Oct. 15.
Rounding out the girls top five are Rockwood teammates Chelsey Saler and Sara Chrise, each with a 104, and Shanksville’s Ilicia Long, who carded a 119.
Straw, McMahon in hunt at D6 tourney
HOLLIDAYSBURG – Bishop McCort’s Kurtis Straw and Penn Cambria’s Will McMahon each shot a 75 to place them within a stroke of Tyrone’s Jim Ferguson after the first day of the District 6 boys championship at Scotch Valley Country Club.
Bellwood-Antis’ Tom Trexler sits in fourth with a 76 and Hollidaysburg teammates Connor Garrity and Mike Macionsky, along with Penn Cambria’s Kevin Quinn, constitute a logjam at fifth with 78.
The Golden Tigers’ 323 paces the team tournament with Central Mountain second with a 325. Somerset is in third with 339.
