Top-seed Bisons earn shutout win

BEDFORD — Top-seeded Bedford dominated eighth-seeded Bald Eagle Area in a 2-0 victory in the District 6 Class AA quarterfinals on Thursday at the Bisons’ field.

The 17-1-1 Bisons next will meet Westmont Hilltop in the semifinals.

Bald Eagle Area concluded a 9-9 season.

“We dominated in the midfield and usually when a team does that, the team wins,” Bedford coach Tom Otis said. “Our defenders played exceptionally good, playing simple in the back and just getting the ball out of there. It was an excellent team performance.”

Bisons junior midfielder Isaac Goodin scored with 12:21 on the first-half clock to give the hosts a one-goal advantage.

Marty Myslinski assisted on the play.

With 5:13 before the half, senior forward Matt Hershberger made it 2-0 with an assist by Morgan Myslinski.

“It was definitely nice to get a 2-0 lead before the half,” Otis said. “That was definitely critical.”

Bedford senior goalkeeper Kevin Dudek made five saves.

The Bisons put 12 shots on goal against Bald Eagle’s Wes Milliron.

“It was a great effort. Right from the start we came out and played hard,” said Bedford senior midfielder Connor Baer. “We wanted this game. Bald Eagle Area played a great game as well and they were a great opponent.”

Bedford will prepare to meet Westmont, a Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference opponent. Westmont topped Chestnut Ridge 1-0 earlier in the day.

“We just have to take one game at a time,” Otis said. “Westmont is a very good team. It’s going to be a very good game.”

“We focus on the game right in front of us,” Baer added. “Westmont is a great team. We’ve got to buckle down and work hard.”
