Shell to transfer from Pitt

PITTSBURGH — Rushel Shell was given time away from the Pitt football team Thursday.

By Monday, Shell had informed Panthers coach Paul Chryst he intends to transfer.

The PIAA all-time leading rusher with 9,078 yards and a product of Hopewell High School outside Aliquippa, Shell played one season at Pitt.

As a freshman, he rushed for 641 yards and four touchdowns as the primary backup for Ray Graham.

Shell entered spring practice No. 1 on Pitt’s depth chart.

Pitt can block Shell from transfering to certain schools and he must sit out one year if he transfers to another FBS school.
