Hopefully the Frankenstorm veers from the area because there are district playoffs in volleyball and soccer, the final week of the regular season in football and PIAA championships in tennis and cross country on the schedule this week.
The high school volleyball playoffs open tonight in districts 5 and 6.
In District 5 Class A tonight, top-seeded Chestnut Ridge hosts three games and No. 2 North Star will play host to a pair of matches.
In a play-in game, Conemaugh Township and Shanksville-Stonycreek square off at Ridge starting at 5 p.m. Hope for Hyndman takes on Everett in the second game and the winner of the play-in game plays the Lions in the finale.
In Boswell, Berlin will play Shade followed by the defending champion Cougars against Northern Bedford.
The semifinals are Tuesday and the championship is on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Somerset High School.
In Class AA, Somerset hosts Bedford in the title tilt on Thursday following the Class A contest.
In District 6, quarterfinal action opens tonight in Class A with Bishop Carroll and Conemaugh Valley serving as hosts.
The Huskies play Claysburg-Kimmel in the late game preceeded at 6 p.m. by Northern Cambria against Ferndale.
United faces Juniata Valley in the 6 p.m. game at Conemaugh Valley followed by the Blue Jays against Purchase Line.
On Tuesday, the Class A quarterfinals have the Ferndale/Northern Cambria winner playing top-seeded Bellwood-Antis. The Bishop Carroll/Claysburg winner goes against West Branch, the Purchase Line/Conemaugh Valley winner faces Bishop Guilfoyle and the Juniata Valley/United winner will play second-seeded Penns Manor.
The semifinals are Friday with the championship at 2 p.m. Saturday at Altoona.
In District 6 Class AA, quarterfinals open on Tuesday at second-seeded Penn Cambria and top-seeded Philipsburg-Osceola at 6 p.m.
In the opener in Cresson, Ligonier Valley faces Huntington with the Panthers facing Penns Valley in the nightcap. At Philipsburg, Westmont Hilltop and Richland square off in the early game with the Mounties playing Central in the second game.
Semifinals are also on Thursday with the title match at 4 p.m. Saturday at Altoona.
The district soccer playoffs wrap up this week, starting with semifinals today and Tuesday and championships on Wednesday and Thursday.
The tennis and cross country state championships are set for Hershey this weekend.
Tennis gets underway at the Hershey Racquet Club on Friday with semifinals and championships on Saturday. The cross country will be run at the Parkview Course on Saturday morning.
