JOHNSTOWN — Baseball

Conemaugh Valley 2, Conemaugh Township 0: Blake Furman struck out 11 and survived a fourth-inning scare to lead the host Blue Jays to victory in a pitching duel.

The Indians’ Bruno Rosa struck out 11 batters and went 2-for-4 in the loss.

Corey Kalinyak gave Conemaugh Valley all the runs it needed when he drove Cody Gill home with a first-inning single. The Jays’ second run scored on an error.

The visitors loaded the bases with one out in the fourth before Furman got a batter to strike out. The next one up drove the ball to the outfield, where Sam Vibostek’s diving catch ended the inning.

Williamsburg 3, Greater Johnstown 2 (8): Austin McMonagle pitched all eight innings and had 19 strikeouts to help the Blue Pirates slide past the Trojans. 

Williamsburg’s Tanner Kaurader had an RBI double in the win. 

Greater Johnstown’s Isiah Keller was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the home loss. 

Shade 3, Rockwood 2: In Cairnbrook, the Panthers’ B.J. Spangler had 14 strikeouts and gave up only four hits to edge the Rockets. 

Spangler added hit a double and an RBI to in his win. 

Rockwood’s Ethan Keefer had a two run single in the loss. 

Cambria Heights 11, Northern Cambria 10: In Patton, the Highlanders’ Mark Lantzy came in relief in the fourth inning for Cody Baker and helped rally past the Colts. 

Baker also scored two runs and had two RBI.  Cambria Heights’ Josh Serafin was 1-for-4 with a double and scored two runs in this non conference rivalry. 

Northern Cambria’s Joe Olish was 2-of-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the loss.

Central Cambria 11, Forest Hills 8: In St. Michael, the Red Devils’ Will Seymour had four hits with three RBI and pitched a win with five strikeouts against the Rangers. 

Central Cambria’s Logan Brandis had four hits and an RBI.  Trace McBreen, Mitch Bogatsky and Tom Howell each had two hits in the LHAC showdown. 

Forest Hills’ Alex Murphy had two hits with two RBI and Robbie Bambino had three hits and was on base five times in the loss.

North Star 6, Ferndale 1: In Boswell, the Cougars Derek Mullen had three singles with two RBI in a WestPAC victory over the Yellow Jackets. 

North Star’s Zack Muluchnik had three hits and one RBI.  Josh Bloom added two hits in the home win.

Ferndale’s Trey McGough hit two singles in the loss.

Somerset 12, Hollidaysburg 0 (6): In Hollidaysburg, the Golden Eagles Alex Dirienzo piched six innings, giving up only two hits and had six strikeouts in a win against the Golden Tigers.

Somerset’s Tanner Stull had two hits and an RBI.  Ross Dirienzo added three hits with two RBI in the road victory. 

Hollidaysburg’s Bryce Mosteller had two hits in the loss. 

Portage 16, Windber 1 (4): In Windber, Bailey Kerch hit a triple and a home run with five RBI to push  the Mustangs to a mercy-rule win in four innings. 

Portage’s Brandon Madigan hit two doubles and C.W. Miller had a double with one run scored. Luke Dividok was credited the win, giving up only four hits.

Windber’s Bryce Spak hit a double in the home loss. 

Shanksville-Stonycreek 14, Blacklick Valley 5: In Shanksville, an 11-run outburst by Shanksville-Stonycreek in the fifth buoyed the Somerset County Vikings to a win over their Cambria County namesakes.

Levi Brant drove in three runs with a double and Joey Swank had two hits and scored twice for Shanksville-Stonycreek.

Blacklick Valley’s Evan Marsh was 2-for-4.


Conemaugh Valley 10, Conemaugh Township 7: The Blue Jays’ Kaitlyn Stiffler went 2-for-3  with two runs scored and a solo home run in the third inning to defeat the Indians in a WestPAC clash. 

Conemaugh Valley’s Brooke McCleester had two doubles and scored twice. 

Liz Stiffler added three RBI in the win.

Conemaugh Township’s Beth Bronchak went 4-for-4 and Kayla Luprek scored twice in the road loss. 

Central Cambria 16, Bishop Guilfoyle 6 (6): In Ebensburg, the Red Devils’ Chelsey Long had four hits and three RBI to help blow past the Marauders. 

Central Cambria’s Julia Schaffer went 5-for-5 with three RBI.

Kirsten LaJudice had two hits with a double, scored three runs, and had two RBI in the win. 

Bishop Guilfoyle’s  Gabby Smith had two hits with a triple and three RBI in the loss. 

Shade 13, Rockwood 0 (5):  In Cairnbrook,  the Panthers’ Emma Spinelli had a double, a triple and two RBI in the win against the Rockets. 

Samantha Haynes hit a double and scored a run in the win.

Rockwood’s Bree Shultz had the only hit for the rockets. 

Penn Cambria 5, Forest Hills 1: In Cresson, Katie Little hit a fourth-inning home run and finished with two RBI to lead the Panthers.

Winning pitcher Kelly Yusko struck out eight with no walks.

Taylor Delusa’s home run was the only score for Forest Hills. Teammate Kristen Kundrod went 3-for-3.

Ferndale 10, North Star 0: In Boswell, Lauren Olshwesky and Carrie Rager each had three hits to lead the Yellow Jackets.

Josie Bittner and Courtney Schrock had a hit each for the hosts.
