High School Softball

Ferndale 5-6, Windber 1-12: Ferndale pitcher Taylor Yuhas homered twice as the Yellow Jackets split a doubleheader with visiting Windber.

Yuhas struck out eight, yielded two hits and slapped a two-run homer in the third inning of the opener. Teammate Lindsay Olshewsky was 2-for-4.

Sarah Hartman tripled and drove in Windber’s only run.

Yuhas went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in the fourth inning of the second game.

Cassie Wentz went 2-for-3 with a triple and scored twice for Windber while Hanna Tomlinson was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored.

Morgan Moore, winning pitcher Brianna Sheehan and Taylor McKee each doubled for the Ramblers. Sheehan issued six strikeouts and no walks.

College Softball

Mount Aloysius sweeps way to final day of AMCC tourney: In Erie, Mount Aloysius scored a pair of victories on Saturday to reach the final day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference softball tournament at Penn State-Behrend.

The Mounties defeated D’Youville 6-5 and LaRoche 9-5.

Kiersten Lorditch’s three-run home run sealed the Game 1 victory while Lindsy Sammarco turned in a 3-for-4 effort and winning pitcher Kelsey Ickes fanned six.

In the nightcap, Sammarco went 2-for-4 while winning pitcher Heather Picard fanned four.

Mount Aloysius, Pitt-Bradford and Penn State-Behrend remain alive in the tournament. The Mounties play Pitt-Bradford at 9 this morning. The winner of that game plays the hosts for the title.
