Claysburg gets past Patton

CLAYSBURG — A Tyler Ickes single in the bottom of the ninth on Saturday scored Austin Cunningham for the winning run to give Claysburg a 6-5 victory over Patton in nine innings.

Michael Runk and Cunningham were both 2-for-4 and Ickes finished 2-for-5 for Claysburg, which also got a double and two RBI from Ethan Lewis.

Adam Polites had two hits and Dom Milanesi scored twice for the Redmen, who lost for the first time in the double-elimination tournament and will host once-beaten Bedford at 3 p.m. today.

Claysburg, the lone unbeaten team remaining, will host Ebensburg at 3 p.m. today.

If Claysburg wins today, the winner of the Patton/Bedford game would have to defeat Claysburg twice. If Ebensburg wins, Claysburg sits a day and Ebensburg will play the winner of Patton/Bedford and the winner of that game would play Claysburg in a winner-take-all title game.

In Saturday’s other Cambria American Legion games:

Bedford 15, St. Michael 1 (5): In St. Michael, Bedford eliminated the Saints from the Cambria American Legion playoffs in a five-inning game.

Kyle Droz went 3-for-3, scored three runs and drove in four to lead Bedford. Isaac Stem was 2-for-4, scored twice and drove in a run, and Eric Grace was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI.

St. Michael got a hit each from Tom Smith and Colin Smay. Smith scored and Smay had an RBI.

Ebensburg 7, Portage 2: In Revloc, Dylan Bowers was 2-for-4 and Tom Howell had a double and drove in two runs as Ebensburg sidelined Portage.

Winning pitcher John Grimes and Jared Bowers each had two RBI for Ebensburg.

Bailey Kerch and Brandon Vocco were both 2-for-4 for Portage.
