Local baseball in brief 6/18/2013


Renegades 9, First Commonwealth 0: Starting pitcher Nate Spohn struck out seven and Berkley Hills Renegades’ pitchers did not allow a hit after the second inning in a shutout win over First Commonwealth in the late game at the Point.

John Jones was 3-for-4 with a run batted in, Rick Jones and Matt Kastelic each had two hits and an RBI and Jake Pribanic drove in three runs for the Renegades.

Spencer Price had a double for First Commonwealth.


Delweld 9, Wise Trailers 3: Ben Legath was 2-for-3 including a two-run home run over the right-field fence in the fourth to propel Delweld to a win over Altoona’s Wise Trailers in the first game at Roxbury Park on Monday.

Legath finished with three RBI, Matt Martin was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs and Zach Solarczyk was 2-for-3 including a double with two RBI for Delweld (13-1), which also got a double and two runs scored from Ian Helsel, a double and a RBI from Luke Campbell and a double from Drew Hemminger.

Jake Stern and Nate Pope were both 2-for-3 for Wise.

Cambria Legion

Bedford 7, Claysburg 5: In Claysburg, in a battle for the top spot in the South Division, Bedford scored four runs in the first and rolled to a win over Claysburg, handing the host its first loss.

Kody Blevins and Isaac Kline were both 3-for-4 with Blevins belting a triple for Bedford (9-1).

Presley Swope was 2-for-3 while Jay Stone and Tyler Ickes were both 2-for-4, with Ickes hitting a double for Claysburg.

Somerset 6, Stoystown 3: In Somerset, Eric Costea was 3-for-3, all doubles with four RBI, and Tyler Drain had two hits as Somerset doubled up Stoystown.

Portage 5, Richland 2:

In Portage, Zach Myers had two hits with a double and Jake Bryja had two hits with a double, an RBI and scored once as Portage downed Richland.

Cody Orlovsky and Ryan Orlovsky each had two hits for Portage.

Lilly 6, St. Michael 4: In Lilly, Jake Hurley was 3-for-3 with three runs scored as Lilly raced to a five-run lead before holding off St. Michael.

James Mardula had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Lilly (3-6). Zane Itle was the winning pitcher.

Jared Baker and Dominic Panick had two hits apiece for St. Michael (5-6). Baker also doubled.
