Defenseman named team captain

JOHNSTOWN — Johnstown Tomahawks coach Jason Spence has talked about the leaders in his locker room since the outset of his NAHL training camp.

The second-year head coach feels he can turn to a number of players as role models on a team with eight returnees and 17 newcomers on the official opening night roster.

Spence proved as much in naming his captains and alternate captains.

The Tomahawks will use a rotation of captains from a pool of five players.

“The system will bring more leadership to our room and there will be more people to look to for leadership,” Spence said.

Second-year defenseman Mitch Hall will serve as captain when the Tomahawks open their second season against Port Huron at 7:30 tonight at the War Memorial. Forward Brandon Reinholz and defenseman Jesse Kessler will serve as alternate captains during the opener.

Spence also said defensemen Cody Bentzel and Dakoda Menslage will be in the captaincy rotation.
