Rams’ Lushko ousted in semis

ALTOONA — Richland’s Jake Lushko swept through Central Cambria’s Christoff Trexler (6-3, 6-0) and Juniata’s Brad Lipka (6-2, 6-3) before falling in three sets to Bishop Guilfoyle’s Jimmy Burke in the semifinal of Thursday’s District 6 Class A boys’ singles tournament at Leopold Rec Center.

Burke moved on to Saturday’s championship to face Juniata’s Issac Eck, who dropped Forest Hills’ Ben Buchkovich (6-0, 6-1), Westmont Hilltop’s Ben Katz (6-2, 6-2) and Huntingdon’s Austin Perrow (6-2, 6-0) to reach the final.

Buchkovich advanced to the round of 16 by sweeping past Greater Johnstown’s Josh Carthew, 6-0, 6-1. Carthew’s Trojan teammate – Eliott Mulvehill – also fell in the preliminary round to Huntingdon’s Taylor Mitchell.

In other round of 16 matches, Katz was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Bishop Guilfoyle’s Nick Centar while Central Cambria’s Josh Remillard topped Richland’s Andrew Murtha 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Lipka eliminated Forest Hills’ Nick Goldyn 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 and Bishop McCort’s Luke DiFrancesco topped Westmont Hilltop’s Dan Yost 6-2, 6-0.

Perow dropped Remillard 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 while Burke handled DiFrancesco 6-1, 6-1 in quarterfinal matches.
