Steelers sign Stephens-Howling to one-year deal

JOHNSTOWN — The Johnstown Jet is landing in familiar territory.

Former Greater Johnstown High School and Pitt running back LaRod Stephens-Howling has signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Stephens-Howling, who turns 26 today, spent the past four seasons with Arizona, where he started 10 games and served as the Cardinals featured runner for part of the 2012 season. He rushed for 651 yards and five touchdowns, including a career-high 356 yards and four touchdowns last season.

Stephens-Howling, a seventh round draft pick in 2009, is also a valuable pass catcher with 56 career receptions for 534 yards.

The Steelers are looking for help on special teams and Stephens-Howling led the NFL in kick return yards with 1,548 in 2010.
