Undefeated North Star wins WestPAC
CAIRNBROOK – North Star senior setter Krista Valentine recorded her 1,500th career assist as the Cougars defeated Berlin in the WestPAC championship game at Shade High School on Thursday.
“Berlin is a well-coached team and we knew it was going to be a tough match,” North Star coach Tony Crisafulli said after his team successfully defended its conference crown. “We were blessed enough to come through it and play hard enough to win.”
North Star won 25-22, 25-21, 25-17 to improve to 17-0.
Berlin junior Shelby Coughenour had her 1,000th kill.
Pitt-Johnstown beats Mount Aloysius
Kelsey Shanabrook collected nine kills and a pair of block assists to lead the Pitt-Johnstown women’s volleyball team to a 25-13, 25-10, 25-15 non-conference sweep over Mount Aloysius College, Thursday evening in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 14-7.
Beth Kendera had seven kills and two block solos, and Karen Schmidt had seven kills and seven digs.
The Lady Cats also got four kills apiece from Danielle Fleeger, Ashley Dirado, and Larisssa Swank. DiRado also had three block solos and three block assists.
Bishop McCort state champs to be honored
Bishop McCort’s 2012 PIAA Class A championship baseball team will be honored during halftime of the Crushers’ home game tonight against Bishop Guilfoyle at Point Stadium.
Players, coaches, staff and parents will be recognized and players will be presented with championship rings.
Bishop McCort defeated Montgomery, 14-2, in the Class A final. The Crushers outscored their competition, 47-11, in the PIAA playoffs.
