Simon breaks CFL mark

MONTREAL — Saskatchewan slotback Geroy Simon, a former Greater Johnstown star, broke the CFL career receptions record Sunday in the Roughriders’ 17-12 loss to the Montreal Alouettes.

Simon broke a tie with former Montreal receiver Ben Cahoon with No. 1,018 of his 15-year career when he hauled in a 7-yard pass from Darian Durant in the first quarter. The 38-year-old former Maryland standout finished with three receptions to push his total to 1,020.

“It’s tough to put it into words after a fourth loss in a row,” said Simon, who also holds the career mark for receiving yards with 16,188. “It means a lot, but it will mean a lot more in a while. I’m not about individual accolades. I’m about winning and right now we’re not doing a good job.”
