Moran leads D6 tournament

Richland High School senior Brady Moran holds a one-stroke lead over Central Cambria’s Max Kirsch following the first day of the District 6-AA golf tournament at Scotch Valley Country Club in Hollidaysburg.

Moran carded an 18-hole score of 70, just ahead of Kirsch’s 71.

Northern Cambria’s Tyler Tiesi is third with a 74. Sam Stevens of Central Cambria is in seventh place. He shot an 80 in the first round.

Central Cambria leads Richland in the team standings, 319-326.

Somerset’s Steve Yaros is tied for fourth place in the Class AAA tournament with an 81.

The second and final round concludes today.

Richland to host benefit game

The Westmont Hilltop at Richland boys soccer game scheduled for Thursday at 8 p.m. will help raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

Both teams in this key LHAC game will wear pink uniforms.

Pitt-Johnstown beats Salem

Three different players scored for Pitt-Johnstown and two goaltenders combined on the shutout as the visiting Lady Cats defeated Salem International, 3-0, in a non-conference game.

Lauren Steffen, Maura Koshute and Karley Staffen scored the goals for UPJ (9-4). Alyssa Estel had an assist.

Timi Shiock played the first 81 minutes in goal for Pitt-Johnstown and made five saves. Rebekah Schultz played the final nine minutes.

Salem International dropped to 3-9.

Lady Cats sophomore striker Janna Stoup ranks in the top 15 in Division II in five categories. Her 13 goals rank third, as do her five game-winning goals.
